The Story of Matricaria
I decided to go on a shamanic journey one random Tuesday evening and it quickly turned out to be one of the most profound experiences I have ever had. After many months of deliberating and thinking about my business through the lens of my brain, I only needed to surrender to Spirit to meet the soul of Matricaria. During this journey, I met the spirits of the land I live on and was initiated into true Earth stewardship. Matricaria took form shortly after with the guidance of my spirit allies and my matrilineal ancestors.
Woven into Matricaria is Earth creation, care, devotion, and reverence. Matricaria focuses on bringing powerful Earth remedies and traditional herbal teachings into the hands and bodies of those yearning to connect to Earth, Self, and Spirit. To come back home to the Great, Wild Mother in all of her forms.
It’s fitting that Matricaria comes from the Latin word matrix, which means "womb" and in Southern Italian folk tradition, meaning “dear and devoted mother.” Because on the journey back to Earth, the archetype of Mother is inherently imbued within the incredibly healing and nourishing effects of the plants and their spirits. The Mother is where all life comes from and where all life returns to. In the arms of Mother Earth, we are unconditionally held, loved, and supported.
Through Matricaria, it is my life’s mission and soul’s purpose to gently guide the collective into remembrance and reverence— honoring the Earth and returning to ancient ways of healing and connecting with all life. I am in service to the empowerment of individuals within their own healing journeys so that they may find personal, transformative plant allies and practices. Here, we walk in the sacred garden together.
About Me
My name is Sam, owner of Matricaria. I am a folk herbalist, Wise Woman, Earth Priestess, Woman of the Womb, green witch, mystic, alchemist, visionary, creator, and forever student.
When I was a little girl, I used to spend my summer days at my grandparent’s house where the garden never seemed to stop blooming. You would be able to find me playing with worms, climbing trees, picking “lamb’s ear” just to feel the soft caress on my face, or eating the sweetest tomatoes right off the vine. This was where my great love affair with the Earth began.
In 2021, I took the first steps in learning Earth care and stewardship. The plant path found me. Now, here I stand as a devoted herbalist, wisdom keeper, medicine woman, and steward of the land.
I am a certified herbalist under the School of the Sacred Wild, where I was trained in the Wise Woman Tradition of Healing. I have completed numerous other herbal courses and draw on many different methodologies including traditional western herbalism, TCM, ayurveda, elemental herbalism, herbal energetics, and herbal astrology. I am also a graduate of University of Maryland, with a B.S. in Kinesiology.
When I’m not in my garden or studying, I love to read, write, cook delicious meals, dive into the current astrology, go on adventures, and circle up with my coven.
